Blue Spiral 1 in Asheville, NC, Features Fiber Exhibit

The Blue Spiral 1 gallery in downtown Asheville, NC, will feature an exhibition of mixed media/fiber by Western North Carolina artist Bernie Rowell through Oct. 31, 2000.

Rowell constructs imaginative fiber assemblages with distinguished craftsmanship. Whether sewing and painting representational pieces based on nature's charms or abstract compositions with the inclusion of recycled computer chips, her designs demonstrate her gifted imagination.

Recently, the artist created a series of basket forms from scraps of thread accumulated from her larger projects with a darted felt base. The walls of these "nest" allow space for the colorful collage and surface signature of Rowell's work.

This presentation will take place in Blue Spiral 1's Showcase Gallery on the upper level. The Showcase Gallery program, initiated in 1997, highlights a different artist every month, giving them the liberty to develop a significant body of work for a distinct space.
