Chairs On Parade Chairs - Now Being Auctioned on Internet

Tyrannochairus Rex, Keith Stanley & Donna Cullum

Chairs On Parade was the largest public art exhibit in Charlotte, NC, history! Now, many of the chairs which were part of the exhibition, will be auctioned during an online auction, taking place through Nov. 2, and a live auction event on Nov. 3, which will benefit the Tryon Center for Visual Art, as well as other non-profit organizations in the Charlotte Metro region.

Committee Chair, Pam Brock

The chairs in the "On-line Items" section will be sold exclusively online at (http://www.chairs-on-parade-auction.com). The high bidder upon conclusion of the online auction will win the chair. The auction for these chairs concludes on Nov. 2 , 2001. The auction for the chairs in the "Live Event Pre-Bidding" section will conclude on Nov. 2, 2001 and then be carried forward into the live event on Nov. 3, 2001. Prior to our live auction on Nov. 3, we will be accepting pre-bids and proxy-bids for the chairs exclusively. The high bids received online will become the opening bids at the live auction. If you bid high and often, you may be the winner, even if you cannot attend the live auction. If you use our time-saving proxy-bidding feature, and you are still the high bidder at the end of the online auction, your sealed proxy-bid will be transferred to a "bidding agent" who will bid on your behalf, at the live auction, up to your proxy-bid limit. Using the proxy-bidding feature will greatly enhance your chances of winning since it provides you with the ability to enter a maximum bid that will only be reached if competing bids are placed against it.

The Tryon Center for Visual Art is a progressive, not for profit organization committed to enhancing and promoting the visual arts in Mecklenburg County and building the Charlotte Region into a significant visual arts center in the Southeast. Tryon Center for Visual Art is supported in part by the Annual Fund Drive of the Arts & Science Council of Charlotte/Mecklenburg, the North Carolina Arts Council, a state agency, and its members.

It's A Jungle Out Chair, Students of Hickory High School

At the beginning of the Chairs on Parade auction events, each of the chair sponsors were given the opportunity to designate where the proceeds of the sale of their chair would benefit. Sponsors were given the opportunity to donate 100% of the sale proceeds to the Tryon Center for Visual Art or to split the proceeds between the Tryon Center and a designated charity. The following represents a complete list of the charities benefiting from the chair sales. These organizations will receive 50% of the sale proceeds for their designated chair:

Arts and Science Council-Charlotte/Mecklenburg, Children's Miracle Network, Homeless, Charlotte Repertory Theatre, Cabarrus County United Way, Council for Children, Crop Walk, Wilmore Community Center, North Carolina Dance Theatre, Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, Children & Family Services of Mecklenburg County, Girl Scouts/Hornets Nest Council of Mecklenburg County, American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, American Red Cross, Junior Achievement, Charlotte Habitat for Humanity, Afro-American Cultural Center, and the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, Athletic Department.
