Global Art Project Founder Comes to Western North Carolina

Founder/Director of the Global Art Project, Katherine Josten, will be traveling through the Carolinas in October. She is scheduled to give a 2pm talk and slide show in Tryon, NC, during the town's ArtEscape festival on Oct. 13.

ArtEscape, an arts celebration during the fall foliage season, brings together over a hundred artists and craftsmen, musicians, culinary delights, and a wine tasting from North Carolina vineyards. The event offers an opportunity to view and purchase art from seventeen galleries in downtown Tryon.

The Global Art Project slide show will be in the Mural Room of the Tryon Fine Arts Center at 34 Melrose Avenue, in Tryon. The slides are of the art and the people around the world who created pieces to exchange in previous projects. Josten, a Tucson-based artist, will explain the development of the Global Art Project, how people can get involved, and future plans for the project.

The idea of the Global Art Project is as simple as it is profound - to spread world peace and global unity through art. Since its beginning in 1994, the project has joined together over 40,000 participants in a multicultural celebration of peace expressed through the arts. The next exchange will occur in Mar./Apr., 2002, with participants on all seven continents, creating, exhibiting, and giving away art expressing global unity - resulting in thousands of messages of love and friendship simultaneously encircling the Earth during the week of April 23-30, 2002.

Another venue for Josten's slide show will be at a reception in the Arts Center of Henderson County in downtown Hendersonville, from 7-9pm on Oct. 17. A reception for Josten is being sponsored by Jessica Claydon of Touchstone Gallery. Claydon has been responsible for exposing the Carolinas to the Global Art Project. Other presentations are in the process of being scheduled around the Asheville area. Check local papers for dates and times.
