Hickory Museum of Art in Hickory, NC, Features Works by Kate Worm

A Hickory resident for 23 years, Kate Worm is known as an artist devoted to her craft and as a teacher of drawing and painting. The Hickory Museum of Art is proud to host Kate Worm: Paintings and Drawings, Worm's first one-person museum exhibition, in the Shuford Gallery through Nov. 18, 2001.

The exhibition includes works borrowed from local collectors, as well as new paintings and drawings from the artist's studio. Works selected for the exhibition reflect Worm's experimentation with traditional art subjects, from landscape (primarily seen in hear earlier works) to still lifes set up in her studio. Her transition from landscapes to studio work has allowed Worm to pay more attention to formal aspects of art - such as color, or degrees of light and dark - that she believes are the actual subjects of her work.

The exhibition further reveals Worm's technique with an area modeled after her own complete with the tools and unframed sketches she uses to develop her paintings. The studio glimpse of an artist at work, conveying the creative processes Worm follows as she works.
