Spratt Burroughs Gallery in York, SC, Offers Exhibit on Color, Shape, & Texture

Until September: an Evolution of Color, Shape and Texture, is on view at Spratt Burroughs Gallery in York, SC, through Nov. 24. The exhibition features works by Lynda Lea Bonkemeyer and Thomas Thielemann and also includes works by other regional contemporary artists.

Lynda Lea Bonkemeyer and Thomas Thielemann, husband and wife, live in Lenoir, NC. Bonkemeyer teaches two dimensional art at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute. She and Thielemann both received Masters of Fine Arts degrees from Radford University, where they first met.

"The concept of family and the idea of home have been subtle, yet constant themes throughout my work. One particular subject I consistently return to is the nest. A small collection of abandoned nests resides in our studio and I respond to their distinctive shapes and unique textures. While drawing these nests I become deeply involved with describing their tactile qualities through line variation and sensitive marks. The nest is a metaphor of home and a reminder of deep rooted childhood memories," said Bonkemeyer.

"A painting is a long journey that describes where one has come from and where one hopes to go. My subject matter and imagery include ladders, hearts, birds, crowns and angels. These images are universal symbols representing spirituality and a reason for our place and time. I hope that the symbols and words in my work will leave the viewer with questions and contemplations about life, love and creation," said Thielemann.
