Coleman Fine Art in Charleston, SC, Features New Works by Earl B. Lewis

Coleman Fine Art, in its new location at 79 Church Street, in Charleston, SC, presents an exhibition of original watercolors entitled, Cross-Town: A Glance at Life in Charleston, by Earl B. Lewis. The exhibition open Nov. 1 and continues through Nov. 30, 2002.

The show will feature works providing an honest glance at the architecture and people living in the cross-town area of downtown Charleston. The exhibit coincides with the Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association's Fourth Charleston Fine Art Annual, taking place Nov. 1-3, 2002.

Lewis is strongly drawn to the light and the effects it has on the architectural landscapes of Charleston. The sharp, crisp, brushwork for which he is known expertly conveys a sense of depth, shadow and light, pattern and texture. He captures fleeting moments with a truthfulness that cannot be reproduced on film. His distinctive palette of earthy browns, greens, and grays underscores the peaceful, tranquil mood of the area that he most enjoys, the Lowcountry.

Although he has been painting real people in their everyday environments for years, he recently viewed a Thomas Eakins exhibit that inspired Lewis in a new direction. Collectors can look forward to a unique and captivating depiction of Charleston and the surrounding area from this emerging national artist.

Lewis will demonstrate his technique as he paints in plein-air during the Fine Art Annual's "Painting in the Park," in Wahington Park, next to City Hall in Charleston, on Nov. 2, from 9:45-11:45am.
