The Wolf Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Martha Sharp

The Wolf Gallery in Carleston, SC, is presenting a show of plein air oil paintings entitled, Summer Solstice, by Charleston artist, Martha Sharp from Nov. 1 - 21, 2002.

This is a unique opportunity to experience the artistic process, showing both the plein air studies and the accompanying paintings, allowing the viewer an insight and understanding of the transition from a study to a painting.

These new colorful works are from the Carolina Islands; the artist's bright sunny canvases capture the sun and heat of the sultry summer season. "The most important part of a painting to me is that I capture the feeling of the moment. In each piece I want to 'capture the feeling' whether it's a still life, landscape, or figurative work."

Sharp is an award-wining Charleston artist. Her painting career has been in high gear ever since she retired from her own computer business and took her first painting class at the suggestion of a friend, well known artist, Morgan Kuhn. She has since studied with many nationally known plein air painters, and hangs in numerous collections throughout the US. When she is not painting on location, she can be found in her studio in Mt. Pleasant, SC, where she lives with her husband Nugent.
