The Hilton Head Art League Gallery in Hilton Head, SC, Features Works by Gerald Williams

Gerald Williams is inviting viewers to join him in his watercolor travels through the villages and cities of the United States and Europe during his show, A Painter's Travels, which will open at the Hilton Head Art League Gallery in Hilton Head, SC. The exhibition will be on view from Oct. 28, through Nov. 22, 2003.

Williams was born in Davenport, IA, located along the Mississippi River, and his travels from there took him into the Navy and later, to Chicago, where he received his Bachelor's of Fine Art from the School of Art Institute of Chicago. During this period, he painted the city of Chicago and had numerous exhibitions at venues such as the Palmer House, the Union League Club, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Board of Trade Gallery.

During his career as an advertising art director, Williams began to explore watercolor painting and discovered a style of his own based upon strong design while maintaining a certain looseness. His work in oils has also been displayed on limited edition collector's plates produced by Kaiser Porcelain of Germany.

The show at the Hilton Head Art League Gallery will display pieces painted during his travels abroad, including England, and France from Normandy to Provence. His subjects in the United States will feature areas of the East, West and Gulf Coasts.

"The Lowcountry from Savannah to Charleston, is a great painters' country. The local scenes literally beckon us to depict them," Williams comments. "I'm amazed at how many good artists have moved here. The art environment we have is very rewarding - the best I've ever experienced." It has certainly been rewarding in Hilton Head for Williams: he received Third Place in watercolor from the Hilton Head Art League National Juried Show in 2001 and took First Place in the 2002 Bravo! Celebrate the Arts official poster competition.

Williams invites you to join him in his "travels," as he shows you his personal view of all of the many places he has been and experienced through his art. Come and enjoy the journey.

The Hilton Head Art League is a not-for-profit membership organization that promotes the visual arts for its members and the community. It provides training through a series of week-long workshops that feature prominent art instructors from throughout the United States, which are available to all interested persons; provides scholarships for students pursuing art; and creates a venue for artists to exhibit and sell, and the public to see and acquire art.
