October Issue 2004

Hidell Brooks Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Sherrie Wolf

Hidell Brooks Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is presenting the exhibit, Appropriations, featuring works by Sherrie Wolf through Oct. 30, 2004. This will be Wolf's first solo exhibition at the gallery.

Wolf best describes her imagery: "With one foot in the past and another firmly in the present, I create a dramatic staged setting for my still life images. Appropriating art-historical references as windows to the past, I am paying visual homage to great European and American painters who have lead me to where I an today as a contemporary artist." Wolf works included in this exhibition are both oil on canvas and watercolor on paper.

Wolf has been a recognized artist from the Pacific Northwest for the past 28 years. After completing her master of arts studies at Chelsea College of Art in London in 1975, she began a very active career as a painter and printmaker, exhibiting widely in galleries and museums. In the 1990's a painting by Wolf was used in the Absolute Vodka advertising campaign nationally, in USA Today and Time Magazine. Wolf has been featured on Oregon Public Broadcasting television focusing on her unique imagery. She has received awards and fellowships from the Oregon Arts Commission and the Percent for Art Programs in both Oregon and Washington state.
