Wickwire Gallery in Hendersonville, NC, Offers Fifth Juried Competition

Wickwire fine art/folk art in Hendersonville, NC, is proud to present the fifth annual City of Four Seasons in Two Dimensions juried competition and exhibition of two-dimensional art. The exhibition opens on Oct. 22 and continues through Nov. 28, 2004.

Hank T. Foreman, Director and Chief Curator of the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, the largest visual arts center in northwestern North Carolina, eastern Tennessee, and southwestern Virginia, will judge the competition. As art administrator for the Center that exhibits a blend of new and historically important art work and features works of nationally and internationally renowned artists as well as many of the finest artists of the region, Foreman's professional activities include lecturing and designing exhibitions. An educator and artist - he teaches workshops and creates his own studio work. Foreman received his BCA in Painting and Sculpture from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and his MA in Art Education from Appalachian State University.

Participating artists will depict views and visions of Henderson County, past, present and future. From the natural beauty and majesty of Western North Carolina surroundings to the richness of character that is embraced in the area's history, people, architecture, and events, artists will portray their perspectives of the area. Paintings in oil or ink, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, or mixed media reveal what artists feel and think. "The artists we represent," says owner Shirley Palmer-Hill, "have a passion for their work. Their artwork is expressive and exciting. It portrays an enthusiasm we want to share as you enter our welcoming surroundings. The event creates an opportunity for the community to reflect on the visual arts and relish all that has made this quaint yet cosmopolitan location such a unique place to live in and visit."
