Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association in Charleston, SC, to Present Fine Art Annual

The Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association will roll out the red carpet this fall to celebrate its Seventh Fine Art Annual. Avid collectors, art enthusiasts and nationally renowned artists will flock to Charleston, SC, for the city's premier visual arts weekend, Nov. 4-6, 2005. Proceeds from the event will benefit Charleston County High Schools' fine art programs.

The Fine Art Annual weekend officially begins Friday, Nov. 4, with gallery openings throughout the city's historic district. Guests will enjoy an evening of art shopping through downtown Charleston, making stops at all 12 CFADA member galleries. Gallery openings begin at 5:30pm. Admission is free to the public.

On Saturday, Nov. 5, guests are invited to Washington Park, located on the corner of Meeting and Broad Streets, for a morning of "Painting in the Park." The morning affair features 20 nationally recognized artists who will spend their morning, creating masterpieces of the Southern city. Visitors and residents will have an opportunity to witness the artists in their artistic modes, as well as mingle with them. Refreshments will be served. Admission is free. Event begins at 9am.

In conjunction with the "Painting in the Park," visitors will also meet the city's next generation of artists, and view a select group of paintings, created by some of the city's most talented students. At 11am, the association will host its Second Annual High School Art Competition, recognizing the top three students who have excelled in the visual arts. The paintings will be judged by a celebrity panel of judges, which includes, Dr. Marie Goodloe-Johnson, Superintendent of Charleston County Schools, Pam Wall, Assistant Curator, Gibbes Museum of Art, and Barbara Tapp, Editor-in-Chief of Art & Antiques Magazine.

Following morning's "Painting in the Park," guests are invited to the weekend's most anticipated event, the Patron's Gala Reception at the Harbour Club, located at 35 Prioleau Street, in downtown Charleston. Guests will enjoy a taste of Lowcountry cuisine, enjoy drinks from the open bar and partake in the evening's silent auction, where paintings from the morning's "Painting in the Park" will be up for bid. Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit local public schools' art programs. The reception begins at 6pm. Cost is $65 per person.

The Fine Art Annual ends on Sunday with a delicious brunch at High Cotton on 199 East Bay Street, one of the city's most prestigious restaurants. Guests will enjoy a two-course brunch and a special presentation by Art & Antique's Editor-in-Chief, Barbara Tapp. The brunch is the perfect time for both avid and amateur art collectors to learn about "The Art of Collecting," as well as the ever-changing art world, and Charleston's role within it. Brunch begins at 10am. Cost is $35 per person.

Kings Courtyard Inn, a Greek revival bed and breakfast inn, which opened in 1853, will offer Fine Art Annual packages for the weekend. Packages range from $532-$585. To make reservations or to upgrade to the Five Diamond Wentworth Mansion, visit (www.charminginns.com) or call 1-866/720-2949. Kings Courtyard Inn is located at 198 King Street in Downtown Charleston.

In 2004, The Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association raised $15,000 for Charleston County high schools' fine art programs, and drew an estimated 500 people to the annual art affair.
