October Issue 2005

Furman University in Greenville, SC, Features Works by Scott Betz

Furman University's Thompson Gallery will feature the works of Scott Betz, associate professor of art at Winston-Salem State University, in an installation titled Monitor. The exhibit will be on view through Oct. 14, 2005, in Furman's Roe Art Building in Greenville, NC.

Monitor is a showcase of Betz's work in 2004. The pieces on display reflect his experiments with time, sound and motion in the visual arts. The exhibit reflects a new technique in which Betz relates drawings, painting, prints, sculpture, sound, video and installation. The works are influenced and inspired by the artist's family life and young son.

Prior to his appointment at Winston-Salem State University, Betz served on the faculties of Weber State University, Mississippi State University, and the University of Tennessee. He has taught a variety of courses ranging from drawing and painting to printmaking and color design theory.

Betz holds degrees from the University of Evansville, Indiana State University, and the University of Tennessee. His solo exhibitions and group collaborations have been displayed at colleges, universities, and galleries throughout the United States and abroad.
