Horton Hayes Fine Art in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Bernie Horton

Horton Hayes Fine Art in downtown Charleston, SC, will be exhibiting a series of works by Lowcountry painter, Bernie Horton, from Oct. 6 - 31, 2006. In this solo show, entitled Close to Home, Horton focuses on scenes near his residence on Pawleys Island, SC. "Pretty much anywhere you live in the Lowcountry you are surrounded by beautiful scenery," says Horton. "I don't have to go far to find great inspiration".

Horton's familiarity with these views has enhanced the accuracy of these landscapes. While many of the works accentuate a focal point of particular interest to the artist, other areas of the paintings remain more muted and impressionistic, allowing viewers to provide some of their own interpretation. Along with views of Pawleys Island, this grouping includes scenes from Murrells Inlet, DeBordieu and nearby creeks and causeways. In addition to pure landscapes, there are figurative works depicting people fishing, oystering and clamming.
