Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association Hosts Tenth Fine Art Annual - Nov. 7-8, 2008 in Charleston, SC

This fall, the Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association (CFADA) rolls out the red carpet for avid art collectors and nationally renowned artists in celebration of its Tenth Fine Art Annual in Charleston, SC. As Charleston's exclusive weekend dedicated to the visual arts, the Fine Art Annual features more than 25 leading artists from around the nation who will exhibit and sell their artwork at CFADA member galleries. The event takes place on Nov. 7-8, 2008. Proceeds will benefit Charleston County High Schools' fine art programs.

During last year's celebration of visual arts in Charleston, CFADA raised $27,000 for high school art programs.

"With the generous donations provided by CFADA, we are able to provide all students, especially those who may be disadvantaged, with high-quality materials for creating art. Students are truly benefiting from having a creative outlet through our art classes, and this is made possible by your contributions," praises Cheryl Clair, visual arts teacher at Wando High School in Mount Pleasant, SC.

The fine art weekend kicks off on Friday, Nov. 7 at 5pm with gallery openings at CFADA member galleries. Each gallery will feature works by prominent national and international artists that travel to Charleston every year to participate in this prestigious event. This free event is open to public.

On Saturday morning, Nov. 8 starting at 9am, locals and visitors alike will once again mingle and watch artists at work as they donate their time and talent to create masterpieces that will be later auctioned off to benefit the Charleston County High Schools' art programs. The plein air event, Painting in the Park, traditionally takes place at Washington Park, near Charleston City Hall at Meeting and Broad Streets from 9am till noon.

The Fifth Annual High School Art Competition, a platform for young talented artists to showcase their unique works, is part of the plein air event and will start at 11am at Washington Park. The student works will be on display and judged by a panel of celebrity judges. The winners will be announced at 11:30am.

Saturday evening will be dedicated to the finest works of art available for sale in the South. The Third Annual Charleston Art Auction and Gala Reception will take place at 6pm at the Renaissance Charleston Hotel. Last year, the event offered 101 original art works including such renowned artists as Pino, Jonathan Green, West Fraser, and Mary Whyte.

The Charleston Art Auction was founded in 2006 by Morris & Whiteside Galleries located on Hilton Head Island, SC, and The Sylvan Gallery located in Charleston as the premier Southern art auction.

Founded in 1999, the Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association is a source of fine art in the South and consists of the city's most prominent galleries. The association promotes Charleston as a fine art destination for talented artists, passionate art enthusiasts and avid collectors. Since 2004, CFADA has donated more than $100,000 to local high schools.

CFADA member galleries include: The Audubon Gallery, Ann Long Fine Art, Carolina Galleries, Charleston Renaissance Gallery, Coleman Fine Art, Corrigan Gallery, John Carroll Doyle Art Gallery, Ella Walton Richardson Fine Art, Helena Fox Fine Art, Horton Hayes Fine Art, Martin Gallery, Robert Lange Studios, Smith-Killian Fine Art, The Sylvan Gallery, and Wells Gallery.
