October Issue 2008

Lark & Key Gallery and Boutique in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by the Circle of Eight

Lark & Key Gallery and Boutique in Charlotte, NC, will present the exhibit, Circle of Eight, featuring pottery on view from Oct. 3 through Nov. 2, 2008.

The Circle of Eight is a collective of North and South Carolina based potters that have joined together in order to support, encourage and promote one another. The group is actually only comprised of seven potters - Amy Sanders, Julie Wiggins, Ron Philbeck, Jennifer Mecca, Sandy Singletary, Adrienne Dellinger and Greg Scott. Lark & Key is excited to round out the circle with guest potter Diana Fayt, a San Francisco based artist.

From the combined Eastern and Western influenced porcelain of Julie Wiggins to the primitive drawings on Ron Philbeck's earthenware pots the artists have a wide range of styles and influences. Amy Sanders creates utilitarian stoneware vessels that combine form, texture and pattern often influenced by the early years of watching her grandmother sew. Jennifer Mecca's forms are usually organic in nature, which stems from her love of the materials and a personal preference for fluid lines. The work of Diana Fayt combines drawing, painting, printmaking and clay. Her vessels are hand etched and are often narrative with marks of time, events and images seen and experienced.
