October Issue 2008

Nested in Carrboro, NC, Features Works by Annette deFerrari

Nested in Carrboro, NC, will present the exhibit, Reflections on a Life, Paintings for my Father, featuring new works by Annette deFerrari, on view from Oct. 3 - 31, 2008.

"This body of work is based on fragments of memory of my father's life and my relationship with him," says deFerrari. "He died on Nov. 14, 2007, and I had, for several months before he died, been planning on drawing a bluebird for him. But he died before I drew it. It didn't matter: he wasn't much interested in art, but he loved bluebirds. He liked to see them flying in his yard. In the end, I'm not certain that he would have cared about the drawing. Still, I hadn't drawn that bird."

deFerrari is a painter living in Durham, NC. Over the years, she has worked in a wide variety of mediums and approaches including print-making, drawing, collage work, constructions, installations, and painting. Over the last few years she has made a shift from non-objective paintings to works that are comprised of realistic imagery.

deFerrari exhibition record includes one-woman exhibits at Flywheel Design gallery in Durham, The University of the Arts design gallery in Philadelphia, a three-person juried exhibition at the Pennsylvania Academy, also in Philadelphia, and many juried and invitational shows such as Arkansas Art Center's Toys Designed by Artists, Nexus Foundation for the Arts's The Family in Contemporary Art, and Momenta's The Strange Life of Objects.

deFerrari has received prizes for drawing and sculpture, a Pennsylvania Council Grant for collaborative work with dancers, and is included in many private collections including the Scott Memorial Collection at Bryn Mawr College. She studied painting, print-making, sculpture, and drawing at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
