Charleston Crafts Returns to the French Quarter in Charleston, SC

The first of October, Charleston Crafts will move its gallery to 161 Church Street, just a half block South of Market Street, directly across from Tommy Condon's restaurant in downtown Charleston, SC.

Why the move in these times? The new gallery is larger and thus will allow better display of South Carolinian's handmade crafts. The gallery will also be able to accommodate more artisans' work and a greater variety of craft media. Showcased will be pottery, jewelry, pine straw baskets, corn husk dolls, origami, fiber, stained glass, photography, and more. From functional to whimsical, be it a great gift or something for yourself, you'll enjoy and appreciate the skills and efforts of the Charleston Crafts' artisans.

Charleston Crafts now celebrates its 20th year and is the oldest fine craft cooperative in Charleston. Not afraid to take leaps to bigger and better places, this is the sixth location for the gallery, initially open at 16 George Street. Other moves found the gallery on Calhoun and Queen Streets, and for the last 11 years on Hasell Street. This move of five blocks puts the gallery back in the French Quarter and nearer the other craft and fine art galleries.

For those who say, "Parking is always a bear downtown," the gallery is located in/below a parking garage. Just come up/down Meeting Street or East Bay to Cumberland and you'll find the garage a convenient place to park. Surface parking is also available on the corner. After visiting the Charleston Crafts gallery, you may want to have a meal at one of the nearby restaurants and visit other galleries.

The cooperative will continue to produce the Piccolo Spoleto Fine Craft Shows. Work has begun on the May 28 - 30 and Jun 4 - 6, 2010 events. For information on jurying into Charleston Crafts or the Piccolo Spoleto Shows, go to (www.charlestoncrafts.org). There you'll find the applications and information for both.

The artisans of Charleston Crafts look forward to greeting you in the new gallery. See there what South Carolina artisans design and produce.
