Gallery Up in Rock Hill, SC, Features Works by Michael Gayk

Gallery Up in Rock Hill, SC, is presenting the exhibit, Digital Skin: New Jewelry Designs by Michael Gayk, on view through Oct. 23, 2009. The gallery is celebrating its second anniversary.

The exhibit features artwork created by 3D Systems University CAD Instructor Michael Gayk utilizing 3D's proprietary selective laser sintering process. In his latest body of work, Gayk challenges the ways in which we present our bodies to the world and, through the use of cutting-edge technologies, examines the line between 'the material world and the digital.'

"Body adornment can be attractive or repulsive," remarks Gayk in his show statement. "What we choose to adorn ourselves with speaks volumes about our current state of mind and place in the world. I am interested in the design of body adornment that challenges that traditional mode of Craft and material culture; a design mode that is in production, reception and even intent sighted on the future."

We're excited about sharing this demanding new work by Gayk with our community and the opportunity it provides us to expose and educate a new audience to the applications of this technology in the fine art world.

Gallery Up is an artist-run gallery, store and custom frame shop featuring the work of emerging and established artists.
