Blue Spiral 1 in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Andy Nasisse

Andy Nasisse's Showcase Gallery exhibit opens at Blue Spiral 1 in Asheville, NC, on Jan. 2 and continues through Jan. 31. The show will include ceramic work ranging from large and small scale "Face" vessels, plates and platters, to anthropomorphic wall mounted sculpture, never before seen at the gallery.

Nasisse's sculptures are playfully zealous meditations on the human condition. He uses the figure, landscape and vessel as primary images that address the tension between opposites such as light/dark, male/female, and conscious/subconscious. Nasisse's subject matter ponders the role of these opposing elements in the spontaneously unfolding mythic drama of our lives.

Over the years, Nasisse has developed methods of working that bring out the natural qualities of clay and of the process of glazing and firing. Working improvisationaly, the artist perceives figures in the material that he develops into images and narrative. The use of Nasisse's hand in the form of marks and impressions facilitates the transcendence of raw materials into virtually living objects with their own whimsical personalities and enigmatic expressions.
