South Carolina Watercolor Society Celebrates Silver Anniversary
The South Carolina Watercolor Society (SCWS) is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, from May 31 to Aug. 11, 2002. We are inviting artists and art lovers to join SCWS and participate in the planned events.
SCWS will host its 25th Annual Art Exhibition at the Columbia Museum of Art in Columbia, SC, from June 15 to Aug. 11,2002. Nationally renowned artist Dean Mitchell will jury the exhibition, and will also present a lecture at the Columbia Museum of Art.
Beside the privilege of having the SCWS exhibition in the new Columbia Museum of Art, there will also be a wonderful exhibition of early 20th Century watercolors running concurrently. Harry Hansen, Professor of Art at USC and SCWS board member, and William B. Bodine, Jr., Chief Curator of the Columbia Museum of Art, are co-curators for this exhibition, entitled Masters of the American Watercolor, featuring paintings on loan from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
Events include:
Art Market, May 31 & June 1: all entries (approx. 250)
for SCWS juried competition
will be on public display; most will be for sale.
Painting Workshop, June 10-14 ($350 fee): to be taught
by Edward Minchin of
Massachusetts.
Dean Mitchell Lecture, June 1: a lecture/slide presentation
to be held at the
Columbia Museum of Art.
SCWS Annual Meeting and Members' Luncheon, June 15
Reception for 25th Anniversary Exhibition, June 15
SCWS invites any South Carolina resident who is interested in art to join SCWS, share the excitement, and support this major art event. Membership is $25 to join. Members are entitled to enter the competitive exhibition (water media on paper).
Exhibition and award sponsorship opportunities
are still available for partons wishing to contribute to the special
