Moring Arts Center in Asheboro, NC, Offers First Exhibition of the Year

Mixed Matters will be the first exhibit of the new year at the Moring Arts Center Main Gallery in Asheboro, NC. This visually fresh show will be on display from Jan. 5 - 30, 2004. Mixed Matters comprises the work of Dawn Stetzel, Kristin Gudjonsdottir, and Ursula Goebels-Ellis.

These three women followed very different paths to the Chapel Hill, NC, area, according to the show's curator, Jan Chenoweth. Gudjonsdottir's path began in Iceland, Goebels-Ellis' in Germany, and Stetzel's in Iowa.

A love of similar materials and a respect for each other's art lead to their first joint showing several years ago. Each uses a variety of materials in her sculptures with clay being common to them all. Other materials include welded steel and cast glass.

"This show is a wonderful combination of earthiness, fun and elegance. It is a show of rich textures and exciting forms that play off each other in a very satisfying way," says Chenoweth.
