Shain Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Roger Dale Brown and Marilyn Simandle

Shain Gallery is presenting the exhibition, Daily Interludes, featuring new works by Roger Dale Brown and Marilyn Simandle at its new location in Selwyn Corners Shopping Center in Charlotte, NC. The exhibit is on view from Jan. 6 - 31, 2006.

Nashville, TN, native, Roger Dale Brown, began his formal art studies at Middle Tennessee University. He then continued his studies with numerous artists, notably, Scott Christensen, Dawn Whitelaw, George Strickland and Everett Raymond Kintsler.

An avid plein-air painter, Brown began serving as President of the Southeastern Plein Air Association of Painters in 2004. He has traveled across the United States painting landscapes and seascapes from all over the country seeking subject matter combining his love of history, nature and architecture.

Brown is an active member in a number of prominent organizations including: The National Arts Club, Plein Air Painters of the Southeast, and the Cumberland Society of Painters. In 2005 Brown was recognized as a signature member of the Oil Painters of America.

Brown's oil paintings have been displayed in galleries throughout the United States and have won many awards. Honors include: Best of Show, 39th Annual Central South Juried Exhibition, Salon International Juried Exhibition, Oil Painters of America National Juried Exhibition and First Place, Tennessee Art League Spring Juried Exhibition. Examples of his work have been featured in publications of International Artist Magazine, and are included in many private and corporate collections.

Inspired by her mother, a musician and painter, Marilyn Simandle always knew she wanted to be an artist. At the age of six, she started painting watercolors. She went on to receive her Bachelors degree in Fine Arts at San Jose State University. After college she developed her talent by teaching and conducting workshops through the Scottsdale Artist's School.

Simandle's watercolors, acrylics and oils have earned her the honor of over seventy-five one-woman shows in thirty years of painting. She has been featured in numerous arts publications including, Southwest Art, International Artists, Watercolor Magazine and Orange County Illustrated. She has written and published several how-to and coffee table books featuring her art and painting technique. Her most recent book, Contagious Enthusiasm, was published in 2000.

Simandle's warm paintings detail landscapes and interiors set in beautiful European cities are created by working with a light source that brings color to life while creating contrast and depths in the shadows. Her originals are widely exhibited in corporate and private collections including those of: Burt Reynolds, Senator John Garamendi, and The Trump Collection in New York.
