Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash, NC, to Open New Workshop & Meeting Facility

Sunset River Marketplace, the eclectic art gallery in Calabash, NC, has announced it will open a second facility also in Calabash, but at a different location in early 2006. The new art center will offer a wide range of workshops as well as a rental meeting space.

Workshops will be offered in different "tiers" designed for different proficiencies in the arts. Said owner, Ginny Lassiter, "We are working to include some advanced sessions by nationally known artists for the very serious art student as well other professional and beginner programs."

The new facility, which, as yet is unnamed, is located on Calabash Road, and is part of the Icon Marketing building (also owned by Sunset River Marketplace owners Ginny and Joe Lassiter).

In an interview this week, Ginny Lassiter said, "We've had a lot of inquiries into larger national workshops, which we're unable to accommodate at the gallery, and this space will be ideal for it."

The 2,700 square-foot facility includes a large open area to accommodate tables and easels for up to 25 students. A second, smaller area may be utilized for figure classes and small meetings. Most workshops will be 5-day sessions and will attract artists from all over the country.

"Situated where we are between Wilmington, NC, and Myrtle Beach, SC, we have a lot to offer workshop attendees and their travel companions. We are in the process of developing packages that include special prices for dining, entertainment, accommodations, golf and spa treatments, as well as free gifts for the groups." Lassiter added, "We've already had a great deal of interest in the new art center. Watercolor artist Sterling Edwards is booked for workshops during March and October 2006, and we have a one-person art show set for February."

Oil and watercolor artist Chuck McLachlin is also scheduled to offer a workshop at the new Sunset River center, and Brunswick Arts Council has tentatively booked the space for its 2006 Fall Art Show & Sale.

The facility includes a full kitchen, which accommodates caterers easily, and provides a workspace out of view of the event area.
