Converse College in Spartanburg, SC, Offers Works by Jeremiah Miller

The Milliken Art Gallery at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC, will host an exhibit of works by Jeremiah Miller, on view from Jan. 10 through Feb. 7, 2008.

A native North Carolinian, Miller is noted for his paintings of the Carolina and Virginia landscape. His work is distinguished for its sensual brushwork, vibrant color harmonies and visceral textures. Miller's paintings of out-of-the-way places in the wild evoke a mood of silence and solitude and tend to dissolve into abstraction. His works have been exhibited in more than 40 one-man shows and are represented in numerous corporate and private collections in the United States and 11 foreign countries. In the Milliken Gallery, he will exhibit his large landscape paintings of familiar places, people, and things as well as a few drawings. Miller lives with his wife, Sarah Johnson, a violinist and Associate Professor of Violin at Converse College, in the home they built themselves in the woods of northwest North Carolina.

Founded in 1889 and located in the heart of Spartanburg - home to six colleges and 10,000 college students - Converse helps women develop the skills necessary to balance a full life. Students develop their unique voices through our challenging liberal arts curriculum, century-old honor tradition, and Daniels Center for Leadership and Service. Converse is consistently top-ranked by US News & World Report.
