The Pink House Gallery in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Nancy Wycoff Rushing

The Pink House Gallery in Charleston, SC, is presenting works by its newest member, Nancy Wycoff Rushing, on view through Jan. 31, 2008.

Born in Wisconsin, but raised in North Augusta, SC, Rushing has a BA from USC and her Masters degree from the Citadel. Although originally trained to teach secondary English and Math, she ended up working in Special Education for forty years after some volunteer work in that area made her realize she had a calling to teach these children. Rushing used her art to make ideas come alive for them. She taught the last 26 years at Mount Pleasant Academy and plans now to devote full time to her art.

Working principally in pastels, Rushing's emphasis is on color. She reacts to color, is inspired by color, and shows this in her renderings of landscapes, marshes, oceans, and flowers. She has studied pastel painting extensively under Susan West.

Rushing has been an exhibitor in the annual Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Exhibition, held in Marion Square Park in Charleston, for over 20 years and is an exhibiting member of the Charleston Artist Guild.

Rushing and her husband lived at the Citadel for many years, where he was a Chemistry Professor. They retired to their home at Folly Beach, SC. They have one son, Stephen, who lives in Raleigh, NC. Rushing is taking the place of retiring Pink House partner, wildlife artist and photographer, Bruce W. Krucke.
