Cameo Fine Art in Columbia, SC, Features an Exhibition of Works by Al Beyer

Cameo Fine Art in the Historic Congaree Vista area of downtown Columbia, SC, will present an exhibition of recent paintings by Al Beyer. The exhibit will be on view in the main gallery the evening of Vista Lights, Nov. 16. Approximately 30 works will be on display. The exhibit will continue through Dec. 1, 2000.

Al Beyer received his Bachelor of Art degree from Columbia University, NYC, NY, and his Masters of Fine Art from the University of Arizona. Beyer currently resides in Aiken, SC, and is a professor of art at USC Aiken. He has been in numerous juried and invitational shows and has collectors all around the South East.

In this exhibit, a delicate side of Beyer is exemplified where his figures are somewhat enigmatic with inconspicuous shades while others are more stylized and dramatic with flashier hues. The smaller works in the exhibit are sketches that were created in a relatively quick fashion between twenty to forty minutes. These sketches take a distinct time constraint that makes the act of painting more of a performance rather than a effort attempt. In addition to the sketches an unexplored technique was used to create same of the larger paintings using a household roller brush to apply paint. This process helps the viewer observe a worthier glimpse of the application of the paint.

In past exhibits, Beyer has composed his paintings in a sophisticated and stimulating manner circulating around landscapes to his infamous human figures. He feels that always evocative, the human form is a complex and challenging subject matter, especially when an artist works from live models. Beyer continues to take his work to the subsequent level and explore innovative and invigorating ideas.

Beyer has been a significant contributor to Cameo Fine Art and we have been very fortunate to display his impressive body of work over a period of many years and we have watched him reach new and challenging heights in his endeavors as an artist. We invite you to come view his latest work and see the progression he has made thus far.
