City Art Gallery in Columbia, SC, Features Margaret Hall Hoybach for a Book Signing for Vista Lights

For its Vista Lights celebration the evening of Nov. 21, 2002, from 5-9pm, City Art Gallery in Columbia, SC, welcomes Charleston, SC, watercolor artist Margaret Hall Hoybach for a special event. She will be signing a new book she co-authored with writer Joan Brown titled Colors of France: A Painting Pilgrimage. The book illustrates the artist's journey to Claude Monet's France, fulfilling a lifelong dream for the mother of three.

Colors of France, published this year by First Light Books of Seattle, WA, follows Hoybach's travels through the little visited parts of France as she winds her way to Monet's Giverny. The richly colorful sketchbook is also accompanied by the artist's interior monologue, a dramatic narrative of self-discovery.

Artists and travelers alike can take much inspiration from Hoybach's journey. During her travels she takes advantage of the surprises the voyage offers. Though she initially knew little of the language (and made one or two funny faux-pas), she found that her enthusiasm and love of art could open many doors. The book should also appeal to those in love with the cuisine of rural France or learning more about the everyday life along the back roads of this art-inspiring country. Most important, the book is a visual proof a journey richly experienced. Painting Monet's world far transcends a casual visitation based only on taking photographs.

City Art Gallery will also be showing new work by many of the gallery's roster of artists. In addition, the exhibit Philip Mullen: Works 1987-1992 continues through Nov. 30, 2002.
