Conn Gallery in Landrum, SC, Presents an Exhibition Dealing with Abstractions

Three very strong abstract artists will be showing at Conn Gallery in Landrum, SC, from Nov. 2 through Dec. 13, 2002, entitled A Few Abstractions. Two of them, Dominick and Patricia Ferullo who reside in Tryon, NC, have an extensive background in the arts and are very committed to promoting their art and teaching the creative process. Their work can be found in private and corporate collections all across the country.

Dominick Ferullo grew up in New York, and spent many hours studying the works of Motherwell, DeKooning, Pollock and Stuart Davis. Ferullo also lived in North Africa for a while and studied the desert and African architecture. The strength and sensitivity in his work stems from his love of nature and experience in big cities. Ferullo studied commercial art at Rutgers University, printmaking and sculpture at USC in Columbia, SC, and welding sculpture in Fort Lauderdale, FL. His gallery affiliations in this area include Wickwire fine art/folk art in Hendersonville, NC; Conn Gallery in Landrum,SC; The Upstairs Gallery in Tryon, NC; and the Silver Fox Gallery in Tryon.

Patricia Cole-Ferullo, a native of West Virginia, moved to the Tryon-Saluda area about 15 years ago. She received a BFA degree from Florida State University, and had a varied career in fine art, architecture and motherhood. Cole-Ferullo has received many awards at national juried shows. Her paintings are in private and corporate collections in the Bahamas as well as the US.

Cole-Ferullo shares her love of creating by giving instruction in drawing, painting, and experimental watermedia in the Tryon-Hendersonville area for the past ten years. She is represented by the Silver Fox Gallery in Tryon, and the Fish or Cut Bait Gallery in Edisto, SC.

Lisa Salosaari Jasinski, now residing in Newberry, SC, with her husband and one daughter, was born and grew up in Helsinki, Finland. She received a typical Finnish education, including art, literature, philosophy, history, and a thorough education in five languages.

Jasinski pursued writing as a career at first, and worked as a journalist and translator as well. She wrote plays for the stage and TV, and a storybook for children. She received an MA degree in psychology from University of Helsinki in 1972. Jasinski came to the US as an Au Pair, and from this was able to work with Dr. Alexander Lowen in New York. She pursued a career in psychology, moved to NC and married in 1980.

Jasinski's career as a professional artist began in 1992. Her artistic development has been influenced by European and American painters including Klee, Kandinsky, Miro and several other abstract expressionists. Her work has won numerous awards, and is also exhibited in private and corporate collections through out the US.

David Zacharias, a ceramic artist and sculptor, hails from Spartanburg, SC. Originally from Pennsylvania, he moved to this area in the late sixties to attend the University of SC. He received a BFA as a ceramics major and sculpture minor, and an MFA as a sculpture major and ceramics minor.

Zacharias has been an associate professor of art and design at Converse college for 14 years, and before that taught art history at USC-Aiken, and ceramics at USC in Columbia. He's participated in professional level workshops with Don Reitz in 1988 and Ron Meyers in 1987, and separately, the Penland School of Crafts.

Along with teaching full time, Zacharias works in ceramics and sculpts, and has been part of and won prizes in one man shows, group exhibits, and juried competitions all across SC, into VA and PA, since 1972. He's also headed workshops, lectures, and been a juror himself in dozens of exhibits throughout SC and New Mexico.

Zacharias' pieces are strong, dramatic, and whimsical all at the same time.
