Arnold Gallery in Aiken, SC, Features Works by Barbara Yon

The Arnold Gallery in downtown Aiken, SC, will exhibit new work by Barbara Yon from Nov. 20 through Dec. 11, 2003.

While on a mission trip to Japan in 1991, Yon found that product packaging in Japan is very different than in America. Simple wrappers are decorated, even signed by the artist. Yon began collecting the papers, and now transforms them to works of art.

Yon's work often begins with a Japanese stamp. From her collection of Japanese papers, she pulls from the stamp colors, adding watercolors and often calligraphy. "It's amazing," Yon says, "because you never know what the papers are going to look like once they dry."

Yon's mixed media compositions hang in galleries in Aiken, Irmo, Honea Path, Ridge Spring, Newberry, Walterboro, and Charleston, (in SC) as well as Mariposa, CA. She has awards from local, state, national, and international exhibitions.
