November Issue 2004

Greenville Open Studios 2004

The third annual Greenville (SC) Open Studios Project will be held on Nov. 6-7, 2004. Presented by the Metropolitan Arts Council (MAC) and Wachovia Bank, Greenville Open Studios is a self-directed studio tour featuring Greenville visual artists at work in their studios. Admission is free.

Hours for the tour are: Saturday, Nov. 6 - 10am-6pm; Sunday, Nov. 7 - noon-6pm. Greenville Open Studios 2004 will feature 62 area artists with studios located within a 15-mile radius of downtown Greenville during the free-weekend event.

Open Studios is designed to give the public the opportunity to visit artists' studios and interact with them where they work. In addition to seeing an artist's finished work, the visitor is able to observe the artistic process of creating the work as well to learn about the creative process and sources of artistic inspiration.

Samples of each participating artist's work will be available for viewing at the Metropolitan Arts Council Gallery, located at 16 Augusta Street in Greenville. The exhibit, A Room with a View: Selected Works from Open Studios 2004, will be on display through Dec. 17, 2004. Gallery hours are 8am-5pm, Mon.-Fri.

As part of its Thursday Night at the Museum series, the Greenville County Museum of Art is hosting Open Studios: How and Where Art is Made on Nov. 4 at 6:30pm. This event will allow the public to learn more about Greenville Open Studios from a variety of perspectives. Selected participating artists will discuss the event's history and its impact on the community, and other speakers will address the benefits of beginning or enhancing a personal art collection.

"This year's event is going to be fantastic, with a record 62 artists participating," said MAC Board Chairman Kirk A. Goeldner. "So many people and organizations have shown overwhelming support of this MAC-signature event, including Wachovia Bank, our corporate sponsors, the artists and the Greenville County Museum of Art."

Greenville Open Studios 2004 Event catalogues featuring maps to the individual studios and samples of the artists' work are available at the MAC Gallery, at The Greenville News and at various locations throughout the Greenville area.
