Palm Key Resort in Ridgeland, SC, Presents Porches Events

The Institute at Palm Key at Palm Key Nature Resort in Ridgeland, SC, will present several events on the porches of the resort cottages, starting with the annual Art on the Porches an invitational art exhibit and sale on Nov. 6, 2004, from 9am-4pm; an exhibit of Lowcountry photography by Eric Horan, on view at the art building at Palm Key, from Nov. 6 - 30; and Gifts on the Porches, featuring handmade crafts and gifts by various artists, on Nov. 27, 2004, from 9am-4pm.

In addition to the one day art event on Nov. 6, the Institute is excited to host an exhibit of Eric Horan's Lowcountry photography. Horan will also be available during the Art on the Porches event to sign copies of his Carolina Nature photography book. Horan recently collaborated on the book, Lowcountry A to Z, with Hilton Head author Betsy Strickland, who will also be on hand to autograph books. In addition to the autographed copies of both books Horan's 2005 Calendar will also be available.

Strickland came up the idea for Lowcountry from A to Z after a series of questions with her young son. "The inspiration for the book came from my son's questions about the area," she said. "Since then, we have as a family explored our surroundings, identifying shells, collecting rocks, walking in the mud, observing creatures and, in general, just opening our eyes to wonders around us."

Horan has a passion for the Lowcountry that is evident in his nature-inspired photography. "There is such a variety of flora and fauna in the Lowcountry," he said. "With the tidal marsh, there is so much diversity and activity. You have to get out in it to really gain a respect for it."

The Institute at Palm Key is located at Palm Key Nature Resort just off highway 462, outside of Ridgeland, SC. Palm Key is approximately 6 miles from I-95 at exit 28. Located 45 minutes from Hilton Head, Beaufort or Savannah, GA. The Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to continuing education. Money raised form the events will go toward educational events. The events are open and free to the public.
