Farvan International in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Jochen Arentzen

Farvan International Gallery in Charlotte, NC, in collaboration with Mr. Bernhard Aarnink will host and present the paintings of Jochen Arentzen, a young artist from Cologne, Germany, in his first exhibit in the United States. The exhibit will be on view from Nov. 4 through Jan. 31, 2006.

Since it joined the art scene in Charlotte in 1987, Farvan International Gallery has been an uptown landmark, attracting the curious and beginning collectors with its offering of art and artifacts. It has brought the work of known and unknown artists and craftsmen from all over the world, some of whom were refugees. The gallery continues to bring together exceptional works that complement one another, so that Farvan has created its own identity and character by identifying works of art.

Farvan continues to represent international artists, most whom are being introduced in the US for the first time. This tradition continues with this exhibition of works by Jochen Arentzen.

Born in 1968 in Gronau, Westf., Germany, Arentzen earned a Master of Arts Degree from the Academie voor beeldende Kunst AKI in the Netherlands, which is known for liberal expressions and home to many famous painters. That philosophy gave Arentzen the artistic freedom to pursue his own style. He studied under painters Curtis Anderson and Martin van Vreden, well known for their international exhibits.

Arentzen was influenced by inspirations of the 50's style of American paintings popularized by artists Mark Rothco and Clifford Still and the hard edge styles of Kenneth Noland and Frank Stella. His work is also reminiscent of the Abstract Expressionism created by artists Robert Motherwell and Jackson Pollock.

Arentzen developed a style of working in focused and unfocused contrasts. His dreamlike, colorful sequences occupy the canvas along with realistic subjects - his favorite being children.

Works by Arentzen are exhibited in major cities in Europe. He currently lives and works in Cologne, Germany.

Works by Arentzen will be featured alongside the works of other gallery regulars including: Costa Tur, Rosa Maria Costa Delgado, of Spain, Mike Ryon, and Cindy Austin.
