Toe River Arts Council in Spruce Pine, NC, Offers Fall Studio Tour on Dec. 3 & 4, 2005

Hoping to avoid the traffic at the malls this year? Turn your holiday shopping chore into a fun artistic adventure. The first weekend of December, more than 90 artists and craftspeople in Yancey and Mitchell counties of western North Carolina just off the Blue Ridge Parkway will welcome visitors to their studios for the Toe River Studio Tour, a weekend long event of browsing and buying. The studios will be open Dec. 3 & 4 from 10am-5pm.

The Toe River Arts Council, a non-profit organization that serves Mitchell and Yancey counties of North Carolina, presents the free, self-guided cultural adventure.

"The holiday tour has been a tradition for many years," says Denise Cook, director of the arts council. "Some people have attended every one. But whether you're a newcomer or a regular visitor, there is something different and exciting to see. Our goal is to help people get to know the artists in our area and see the world class craft that is made here."

The variety and quality of the art and craft seen on the Toe River Studio Tour is unmatched. Artists in almost every medium open their studios for the tour and most offer a broad selection and price range. Many are well known while others are new to the tour. Bright red signs point the way from studio to studio taking visitors into some of the most scenic and unusual parts of the mountains. A free map briefly describes who and what you will see when you get there so you can plan your route.

Examples of tour participants' work will be on display at the Toe River Arts Council's gallery at 269 Oak Avenue in Spruce Pine, NC, beginning in late November.

Complete information, including a map to the studios, is available four weeks before the Tour at (www.toeriverarts.org) or by calling 828/765-0520.
