Waterfront Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Detta Cutting Zimmerman

The Waterfront Gallery in Charleston, SC, is presenting the exhibit, Moments of Peace, featuring works by Detta Cutting Zimmerman. The exhibit will be on view through Nov. 30, 2006.

Zimmerman is one of the newer artists to Waterfront Gallery but not to the Charleston art scene. Her exhibit is a visual collection giving the outsider a glimpse of the inner sight images of the artist. Zimmerman passes to the viewer her perspective on color and drawing, still life and landscape from Iowa to Charleston and her backyard.

Many years of drawing and painting were put in to get to this place - Moments of Peace.  Starting out, moments of misery and anxiety were the norm but through much diligent practice, painting is now almost pure pleasure for the artist; thus making her paintings moments of peace. Ideas can finally flow through the hand without much frustration.

Zimmerman has many years of art foundation behind her including years of lifedrawing and a BFA from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She has been a dual artist; working both in painting and drawing treating both as separate entities. But more and more the two have been evolving together and changing, but not yet knowing the end. The artist hopes this ever changing process will never stop.

Zimmerman works on a cool dark background working dark to light leaving line for edges. Working this way the artist has more control and structure when she wants it, ending with the background mostly covered.
