Watermark Hypnosis & Serenity Gallery in Columbia, SC, Features Works by Anastasia Chernoff

Watermark Hypnosis & Serenity Gallery in Columbia, SC, will present the exhibit, Relationship, featuring figurative, hand-built, porcelain sculpture by Anastasia Chernoff, starting Nov. 16 for "Vista Lights" and continuing through Dec. 2, 2006.

Chernoff's latest series of sculpture entitled, Relationship, is designed to take you on a humorous, even sensuous, journey into the world of body language. The exhibit explores how body language reflects and evokes thought and emotion. Her work is surreal, playful, and thought provoking. Various body forms will interplay and create their own relationship with each other. Legs become arms which embrace the human form and allow the viewer to examine her or his own feelings, to determine whether the work is love-laden, overwhelmingly protective or even controlling. The primary emphasis of her recent work is the necessity for human love.

Chernoff began sculpting after a life-changing experience in South Africa and Botswana. She initially started sculpting with Portland cement (experimenting with numerous aggregates and surface treatments), then discovered porcelain and developed her own loving relationship with the medium.

Chernoff's Relationship show utilizes fine Australian Southern Ice porcelain, which surpasses Coleman porcelain and even Japanese porcelain in whiteness. Her surface treatments vary and consist of various oxides and painting techniques.

Chernoff approaches her sculpture with very little preconception. She simply starts wedging her porcelain and watches as it manifests its form. Recent hypnosis sessions have created a new magic within her, allowing her to channel this energy in an enlightening, beautiful way.
