Bob Doster's Backstreet Studio, Gallery, and Garden in Lancaster, SC, Features Works by Rick Bischoff

Bob Doster's Backstreet Studio, Gallery, and Garden in Lancaster, SC, is presenting an exhibit of works by Rick Bischoff, on view through Nov. 30, 2008.

Bischoff grew up in New Mexico, where the southwest impacted his spirit and senses, influencing his unique perception and insight. His family background of artists, earth scientists, and electrical engineers shaped an artistic mind early in his life. New Mexico is not the only area that inspired Bischoff. He has traveled the US and has always experienced a strong awareness of various landscapes, geology, and past and present cultures. He expresses his contrasting ideas into his artwork and uses the optical effects of light, color, and medium to create fine artwork with a contrast in style he calls Rustic Contemporary.

Bischoff says, "I like my work to express what I've absorbed in my travels all over the US. My style combines rustic materials in a contemporary line. When my work is emotionally grabbing, I feel most accomplished, and I always strive to be innovative in design. My artwork plays with my interest in contrasting realities, concepts, light, and color. I paint with high contrast color combinations, and the components I use may be liquid, solid, and light. Whether using multiple elements such as lighting a painting within, or a single component such as painting, I want my composition to express my constant quest to think outside the box."
