Third Charleston Art Auction Set for Nov. 8, 2008, in Charleston, SC

Charleston Art Auction will present its third annual sale at the Renaissance Hotel, Charleston, SC, on Nov. 8, 2008, beginning at 7:15pm. Reservations for the $50 (contribution to the Charleston County High School Art Programs includes fully illustrated sale catalogue) per person event are highly recommended as seating is limited and the auction sold out one week in advance last year.

Over one hundred thirty lots, featuring historically significant paintings and drawings together with contemporary works by nationally recognized American artists will be available for preview at The Sylvan Gallery, 171 King Street, Charleston, from 9am to 5pm through Nov. 6, and from 10am to 7pm at the Renaissance Hotel, 68 Wentworth Street, on Nov. 8.

Works by Charleston Renaissance masters, Alice Ravenel Huger Smith, William Aiken Walker and Alfred Hutty, together with other Southern notables, Elise Bacharach, John Stewart Barney, Harrison Cady, Edward von S. Dingle, Frank Galsworthy, Anne Bosworth Greene, William M. Halsey, Mary Comer Lane, Athos Menaboni, May Paine, Aiden Lassell Ripley, William Posey Silva, Will Henry Stevens, Ivan Summers and Walter W. Thompson will be offered alongside recent paintings by William Berra, Joe Bowler, John Carroll Doyle, Ray Ellis, Dan Gerhartz, Jonathan Green, Mark Horton, Clark Hulings, Wolf Kahn, Michael Karas, Dan McCaw, Dean Mitchell, George Pate, Pino, Jennifer Smith Rogers, Richard Schmid, Betty Anglin Smith, Shannon Smith, Rhett Thurman, Karen Larson Turner, Mary Whyte, Mickey Williams and Stephen Scott Young.

Sale organizer, Jack Morris, said "this event begins to take us in the direction of our objective to provide a quality fine art auction of significant Southern paintings, sculpture and antique prints for collectors from throughout the United States."

The auction is held in association with the Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association's (CFADA) 10th Fine Art Annual weekend, featuring gallery receptions from 5:30 to 8:30pm on Nov. 7, 2008, and Plein Air Painting in the Park at Washington Park from 9am to Noon on Nov. 8. Approximately thirty works from the plein air painters will also be offered in the Saturday evening auction to benefit the Charleston County High School Student Art Programs.
