Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash, NC, Offers Works by Linda Migacz Pasulka

Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash, NC, will present the exhibit, Making My Mark, featuring graphite and pencil drawings by Linda Migacz Pasulka, including florals, figures, portraits and still lifes. The exhibition will be on view from Nov. 8 through Jan. 10, 2009.

Pasulka typically works in black and white, but she has added color to several of these unique pieces. The Southport, NC, artist is the recipient of frequent awards and has shown in the juried July National Exposition sponsored by Associated Artists of Southport.

Pasulka earned degrees in Art and Fine Art from Mundelein College, now part of Loyola University in Chicago. Before launching her fine art career, she was a successful designer for the home furnishings industry. During this time she was on the textile design staff in Chicago for Sears, Roebuck & Co and worked on many of the big name projects. This included collaborating with Walt Disney Studios to design Winnie-the-Pooh nursery and juvenile patterns for Sears; working with Diane von Furstenberg on fabric lines; as well as the staffs for Johnny Carson, Denise Austin and Arnold Palms in designing their collections of apparel prints for Sears.

Leaving Chicago, Pasulka entered the world of freelance design, where she developed rug and oriental carpet programs for Glenoit Mills in Tarboro, NC; New York, NY; and Caesarea, Israel.

During the 1990s, Pasulka studied figure painting with Dr. Craig Green, dean of the art department at Meridith College in Raleigh, NC. Since then she has taken workshops with a number of renowned artists, including Mary Whyte of Charleston, SC; Kart Anderson of Tuscon, AZ; and plein air oil painter, Perry Austin. She has also worked locally with Southport artist Rusty Hughes.

Pasulka says, "For many artists, drawing is the basis for other art that they create. But for me, drawing is my goal. I am intrigued by the play of light and shadow as it reveals the detail of my subject matter. I am fascinated by what light does as it bounces off of, or passes through the object that I am drawing. I strive to show my viewers something they have never seen that way before."

Gallery owner Ginny Lassiter said, "I'm a longtime admirer of Linda Pasulka's work. I'm excited to have her work in the gallery. It's exquisite."
