Carolina Gallery in Spartanburg, SC, Features Works by Alan McCarter

Carolina Gallery on Morgan Square in downtown Spartanburg, SC is hosting an exhibit of new paintings by Alan McCarter, on view from Nov. 12 through Dec. 7, 2009.

McCarter is inspired by the beauty of both the Appalachian landscape and coastal Carolinas, and enjoys hiking and exploring from the Blue Ridge to the shore. Known for his "soft, idealized realism," he creates richly textured tapestries of nature. At times working en plein air, McCarter also photographs on location and internalizes his experiences before returning to the studio to portray the mountains, wildflowers and water that captivate him.

Self taught in art, McCarter has been painting since the 1970's. His paintings have been shown in prestigious exhibitions, including the Hudson River Valley 68th Annual Exhibition at the Newington-Cropsey Foundation Gallery in New York, and the Representational Southern Painters Exhibition at I.A. Comer Museum in Alabama. His work is in numerous corporate and private collections and has been represented by Carolina Gallery for over ten years.
