CFADA 2013 Charleston Fine Art Annual Takes Place in Charleston, SC - Nov. 1 & 2, 2013

Charleston Fine Art Dealers’ Association is pleased to announce its 15th Charleston Fine Art Annual, which takes place on Nov. 1 & 2, 2013.

The weekend will kick off with receptions in each of the member galleries: Anglin Smith Fine Art, Corrigan Gallery, Dog & Horse Fine Art, Ella Walton Richardson Fine Art, Helena Fox Fine Art, Martin Gallery, Robert Lange Studios and The Sylvan Gallery.

These receptions will be held on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, from 5 to 8pm. They will be immediately followed by a ticketed preview at the Gibbes Museum of Art of their Art on Paper Fair in which some of the CFADA members are participating. Excepting the Gibbes preview, the weekend events are free and open to the public. The Gibbes will be admission free for the time following the Painting in the Park on Saturday and on Sunday for viewing the collection and the Art on Paper Fair.

Saturday morning from 9am until noon there will be 16 artists from the member galleries painting in Washington Park as the Painting in the Park again strives to raise funds for the participating Charleston County High School art departments. There will be a juried show of works from students at those schools, juried by professionals in the community. The art teachers at each school choose two students and the works are displayed in the galleries until the day of the event. There will be winners chosen that day and announced at 11:30am.

Through the support of many patrons over the years, there will hot coffee and bites available at no charge for the visitors and collectors who come to encourage and peruse the works as they are being created. The paintings made in the park by the gallery artists will be auctioned by silent auction in the individual galleries over a month’s time. They will also be viewable online a few days after the event. Bids may be made during the Painting in the Park. This year, visiting artists are included from past CFADA member galleries such as Horton Hayes and The Wells. Artists who will be in the park are Charles Williams, Chris Groves, Craig Nelson, Francis Sills, Joe Garcia, Karen Weihs, Lese Corrigan, Mark Horton, Mary Beacon, Mary Erickson, Rhett Thurman, Shannon Smith Hughes, Simon Kenevan, Susan Mayfield, Trey Finney, West Fraser.

The artists donate framed paintings to raise funds in support of and to encourage blossoming student artists. There will be additional paintings donated to the cause beyond those done in the park from Betty Anglin Smith, Jennifer Smith Rogers, Nancy Pellatt, Kerry Brooks and others.

Currently the art departments in the county schools have a zero budget for art supplies. Due to these artists’ and their galleries’ donations and the support of Artist and Craftsman Supply, the teachers are able to choose quality supplies for the classrooms. The monies donated to visual arts’ education and art supplies by the Charleston Fine Art Dealers’ Association tops $300,000.

CFADA began in 1999 with nine members to promote Charleston as the fine art destination it has been since the early 1700s, support collector and viewer education and future artists. The organization continues to produce events that are intimate and appealing to the fine art connoisseur. The July Palette and Palate Stroll has become a popular event with the kind participation of the wonderful local restaurants. Collectors have come from far and wide each year for the Fine Art Annual and the Palette and Palate event. The growth of the art market in Charleston has been strong over the last 15 years and the future is wide open for more quality expansion!
