Furman University in Greenville, SC, Features Juried Exhibition

Furman University in Greenville, NC, will present Transformation, Community and Self, on view in the Baiden Gallery of the Herring Center for Continuing Education, from Nov. 4 through Dec. 16, 2013. A reception will be held on Nov. 4, from 4:30-6:30pm in the Manly Lobby of the Herring Center. Those finalists whose work is selected for the permanent collection of the Herring Center will be announced at the community reception.

The exhibition highlights accomplished area artists whose work reflects the theme of the show and the mission of Continuing Education at Furman University. As a unique group of programs on campus, CE brings broader audiences, beyond the traditional college population of 18-22-year-olds, into the Furman family.

The panel of jurors for the exhibition includes Bob Chance, a full professor at Furman University with many regional and national exhibitions to his credit; Diana Farfan Valente, a studio artist whose 2D and 3D works have been awarded in multiple international exhibitions; and Joe Thompson, chair of the Visual Arts Department at the Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, whose large-scale sculpture projects have received numerous distinctions.

The art show gives the community an opportunity to visit the Herring Center, home to Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), Learning for You, and Bridges to a Brighter Future. The Herring Center is also headquarters for two other divisions of Furman’s Continuing Education – Undergraduate Evening Studies, and Corporate & Professional Development. In all, Furman’s Continuing Education department serves more than 3,500 Upstate students annually.
