Tiemaker's Gallery Opens in Charleston, SC, on Spring Street

The grand opening of a new gallery in Charleston, SC, Tiemaker's Gallery, took place Nov. 10. Tiemaker's features new works by David Edwards, Emily Jenkins, Matt Overend, and Dorothy Doubleday. Original works featured include oils, drawings, black and white photography, and ceramic sculpture. Tiemaker's is a fine art gallery, which introduces new, innovative modern art to the city of Charleston.

For the opening exhibit, photographer David Edwards exhibited the piece, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Camera Man, a tactile representation of seeing, family history, and being behind the camera. Emily Jenkins presents abstract oil paintings that use color, brush stroke, and pallet knife in an instinctive language. Acclaimed artist, Matt Overend, exhibits figure drawings and oil paintings of nudes, and still lifes. Dorothy Doubleday offers unique ceramic sculptures and wall reliefs.

Tiemaker's was named for the house, which was home to elderly tiemakers who lived and worked there in the 1940's. The space is a small "owner-built" single house dating back to 1840.
