Ella Walton Richardson Fine art Gallery Opens in Charleston, SC

Ella Walton Richardson Fine Art Gallery recently opened at 73 Broad Street in Charleston, SC. Located next to the historic St. Michael's Church, the gallery features contemporary realistic and impressionistic art by local and nationally acclaimed artists.

The grand opening will be on Dec. 7. The featured artist in December is Karen Hewitt Hagan, a local Charleston artist and one of the founding members of the Plein Air Painters of Charleston.

Other featured gallery artists are Carl Belfor, Lynn Gertenbach, Nina Mera, Craig Nelson, Gloria Mani Pipkins, Silvio Silvestri and Aleksander and Lyuba Titovets.

Visitors to the gallery are immediately struck by the magnificent facade of the building, which overlooks Washington Park. Upon entering the gallery, visitors are cheerfully met by the "official greeter," Tucker, Richardson's two-year-old yellow Labrador Retriever. The interior space features tall ceilings, immense windows and a large open floor plan. The walls are painted a warm off-white, which creates the perfect backdrop for the traditional art inspired by early 20th century American Realist and Impressionist movements. With tongue and groove paneling and a pressed tin ceiling in one area and an open ceiling with air ducts in another area, Richardson has combined the look of industrial chic with traditional elegance culminating in a warm inviting environment.

Behind the gallery, is a charming courtyard where visitors can sit and enjoy the tranquility created by the abundance of flowers, a soothing fountain and a view of St. Michael's steeple. Off the courtyard is a quaint stucco building that houses the photography studio exhibiting works by Ella Richardson.

Richardson has always had a passion for art and beauty. She began modeling at an early age and has been following her love of fashion, decorating, photography and art ever since. Richardson previously opened and managed the John Carroll Doyle Art Gallery in Charleston for four years. During this time, she established long-lasting relationships with clients.

Richardson believes that one of her gifts is having a "good eye" and she puts it to work for her clients assisting them in selecting the art that perfectly complements their homes. She often visits her collectors' homes and assists them with art selection to complement their interiors. Richardson enjoys hanging the selected art and brings a very "hands-on" approach to each of her clients.

In addition to her gallery experience, Richardson is an avid photographer, has managed bed and breakfast inns, and has had a vast experience in sales and marketing. She also holds degrees in psychology and political science from the University of SC. Richardson's professional background combined with her ever-constant love of art makes her the ideal liaison between the collector and the artist.
