Eva Carter Gallery Features Exhibition of Works by William Halsey in Charleston, SC

Eva Carter Gallery in Charleston, SC, is pleased to present the work of Charleston abstract expressionist William Halsey in an exhibition entitled, William Halsey - Ancient Fragments. The exhibition opens on Dec. 7 during the French Quarter Gallery Association's ART WALK and continues through Dec. 31, 2001.

Halsey worked professionally as an artist from 1937 until his death in 1999. He was born in Charleston with a brief, yet successful stint in New York City, but choose to return to Charleston to pursue his career as an artist. Although an abstract painter, Halsey's work reflects Charleston's colors, textures, and geometry. It is the works in Ancient Fragments which best represent Halsey's intrigue of Charleston's visual and textural qualities.

Halsey has stated, "...I have carried on a love affair with fragments, shards, ruins, bits of past civilizations. This is not simply nostalgia. A large part of it is visual-tactile pleasure derived from color, broken edges, worn surfaces produced by time and weather. The enigmatic quality of things not quite complete, the mystery of symbols not entirely understood."
