8th Festival of Crafts Opens at Upstairs Gallery in Tryon, NC

The much anticipated Festival of Crafts will open for its eighth season at Tryon's Upstairs Gallery in Tryon, NC, at noon on Dec. 7, and continue through Dec. 15, 2001.

This event has become a seasonal must for area shoppers looking for unique and original handmade gifts to complete their holiday shopping. With more than 65 artists juried into this show, shoppers will have an impressive selection of quality gifts to choose from including jewelry, pottery, blown and stained glass, fabric creations, candles, sculpture, prints, books and CDs, photographs, decorative iron, framed art, and baskets, to name just a sampling of artistic media that will be represented.

"Because the Festival has such a variety of crafts and prices, just about everyone can find exciting gifts that fit the budget," says Mara Smith, the Festival organizer. "That's one reason why this is such a popular event."

This year, the Festival will offer a sneak preview to members (from 11am to noon) on Dec. 7; a scarf tying demonstration on Sunday (Dec. 9) afternoon at 3pm; and throughout the Festival, a raffle for a dinner party at Twigs in Landrum, SC.

In a season offering over-crowded malls, indifferent superstores, and impersonal online shopping, the Festival of Crafts provides a welcome alternative - friendly shopping for handmade gifts by area artists in a beautiful boutique setting.

The Festival of Crafts is the Upstairs Gallery's primary fund-raising event. Festival hours will be: Mon.-Sat., 11am-6pm and Sun. 1-5pm.
