Hidell Brooks Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Tom Berg

Hidell Brooks Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is pleased to announce their first solo exhibition for Tom Berg. Berg's solo exhibition will run through Dec. 21, 2002. Running currently with this solo exhibition will be a group show featuring new works by 11 gallery artists including Eric Aho, Arless Day, David Kroll and Philip Geiger.

For the past 25 years,Tom Berg's paintings of chairs have gone through cycles where the emphasis has shifted among elements of formalily and structure, texture, context, geometry and symmetry and indoor and outdoor settings. There have been single chairs, groupings, chairs next to swimming pools, chairs on fire, chairs that convey a sense of quiet relaxation and others edgy with mystery and the unknown. Through it all, Berg said, the essence of his work is not, in the end, about chairs. The object of our gaze is the chair, but the chair is not the subject matter. Berg's "chair paintings," as they are correctly yet inaccurately called, are so easily seen that they are nearly invisible. The current exhibition consists of 16 new paintings on canvas and board along with two paintings on paper.
