December Issue 2004

Aiken Center for the Arts in Aiken, SC, Features Group Exhibition

The Aiken Center for the Arts in Aiken, SC, will feature works by Denis Chasse', Karen Weihs, Katheryn Chasse' and local Alzheimer's patients (in conjunction with Mattie C. Hall's, Joy in the Journey, fund raiser), through Dec. 30, 2004.

Seeking to "express the beauty of nature through color and design," Denis Chasse' brings his works from Williamsburg, Va. He has studied at Harvard University, Paul Goodridge's Art Studio (Salem, MA) and the Art Institute of Boston.

Katheryn Chasse', wife of Denis, is an accomplished photographer whose works are inspired by "nature's rhapsody and, now the imitable moments and seasons of my grandchildren." She has studied with photographers Gerry Vartarian and William A. Crosby.

From Cashiers, NC, Karen Weihs bases her paintings on "intuitive impulses." Color is important to the message of her paintings, and "it welcomes a response for the viewer and marries the subject with the message."

The collaborative exhibit with Mattie C. Hall, Joy in the Journey, features art created by local Alzheimer's patients that will be auctioned off to benefit the South Carolina Alzheimer's Association, Palmetto Chapter.

Located in the heart of downtown Aiken, Aiken Center for the Arts has been a major art resource to the community for over 30 years. Offering a variety of visual and performing art classes, free exhibits, children's summer art camps and special events such as Horseplay, the Center is dedicated to furthering the arts in the community.
