Do not miss this opportunity to view the talent of one of South Carolinas most imaginative and well known artists.

McWhorter is widely known as a multimedia artist. Her works derive from a very personal nature and is inventive, unique and comes from her soul. The works in this exhibit are unique in design and style, and each entails a different quality and evokes different emotions. The detailed work involved in this collection will both amaze the viewer and give some insight into the artists' imagination and originality. McWhorter has the talent of bringing the viewer into a distant land, one that we have never seen before. Many pieces in the exhibit include the natural elements of animals and shells and each brings earth tones and romantic blues to give the participant the emotions of each piece.

"The complex relationship between the human and animal forms are beautiful restraints and invite reflections and connections," says McWhorter.

McWhorter received her BFA and MFA from the University of Georgia, and studied at the Brooklyn Museum of Art School in New York on a Max Beckman Scholarship. She began her professional career as an art teacher in Iowa, but soon moved to South Carolina to begin teaching at the Museum School at the Columbia Museum of Art. For 23 years, McWhorter was an instructor of drawing, painting and sculpture, and served as Director of the Museum for 6 years. Her teaching experiences also include sculpture, design and drawing classes given by her at the University of South Carolina, Newberry College and Benedict College.

McWhorter has participated in over thirty one-woman exhibits both regionally and nationally, and is listed in the Who's Who in American Art, and was featured in Allied Publications of Prize Winning Sculpture and Watercolor, the First Compendium of Women in Design International and Fiber Arts form IV. She was also one of the chosen artists for the 100 Years 100 Artist exhibition at the South Carolina State Museum in 1999-2000. Her works are included in collections at the Gibbes Museum of Art, Greenville County Museum of Art, Columbia Museum of Art, Georgia Museum of Art and Columbia College of South Carolina.

McWhorter's commissioned works include: the model of SC State Seals, Portrait Plaques, a model of a lion at the Airport Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, a mural for General Services of The United Stated Government, a seal of The State of New York for the New York State Fair, The Verner Award Statue Design for South Carolina Arts Commission, a life-size Rembert Dennis bronze relief, the Robert McNair monument design and plaques for the South Carolina Capitol Complex, the Charter Day Award Statues for Benedict College, eleven large wall hangings for the Keenan Chapel Trinity Cathedral in Columbia, and a bronze plaque and paintings for the UMSC.
