Artists' Guild of Spartanburg in Spartanburg, SC, Features Works by Jane Doyle

The Artists' Guild of Spartanburg will present the exhibit, Passing Thru, featuring works by Jane Doyle, in the Guild Gallery, located at the Chapman Cultural Center in Spartanburg, SC. The exhibit will be on view from Dec. 1 - 31, 2007.

Doyle takes her inspiration for the works done in acrylic medium, complemented with oriental markings and play on light, from nature and memories of Asian travel. She has been painting for more than 12 years, working first in watercolor. As she studied and visited galleries in the United States and Europe, she began the process of learning and experimenting that took her away from watercolors and led her to working in acrylics.

"Slowly I have discovered the secret of my art which consists of a meditation on color and the expression of combining complimentary hues which always inspire my work," Doyle explains, adding that working in the abstract has allowed her to combine her love for colors with informality of form.

The artist's first influences were the intense colors that she admired in her mother's Southern garden. The memories of the brilliant and vivid colors of roses, hydrangeas and dahlias remain a strong influence and have become integral to many of her paintings.

Doyle's work has been widely exhibited, including the 2006 Guild Juried Show, the Upstate Visual Arts Competition and the South Carolina Festival of Flowers Exhibition. This year one of her works was chosen for the poster for the South Carolina Festival of Flowers.

"I paint for the purpose of discovery, seeking out the infinite range of colors that can blend together, to produce a work that reflects how I see and interpret any given subject," Doyle says. "In this process I allow my imagination to be the hub and let it navigate me through the shapes and colors, so what unfolds on the canvas is an original presentation of hues, shades and tones."
