Center of the Earth Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Exhibit by New Gallery Artists

New Faces: A Group Show, featuring works by Carrie McGee, Kathleen Holmes, Brian Hibbard, Maxx Morgan, and Scott Hill, will be on view at Center of the Earth Gallery in Charlotte, NC, through Dec. 28, 2007.

Center of the Earth is proud to introduce five recent additions to the gallery. Nashville, TN, artist Carrie McGee's mixed media constructions explore variation within repeated forms. Utilizing transparent plastics as a ground, she experiments with natural and chemical processes, such as rust and oxidation, to create luminous works that emanate a meditative pulse.

Kathleen Holmes "discovered" the beauty in vernacular textiles upon resettling in south Florida. In her paintings, crochet is used as a visual metaphor for connections, relationships, "women's work", natural geometry, and her home, the Deep South.

Greensboro, NC, painter Brian Hibbard's landscapes and horses bridge ancient and modernist sensibilities. He captures the subject in a representational fashion while incorporating abstract elements, focusing on form, texture, and surface.

Maxx Morgan's use of his dark palette and cold color combinations of urban Atlanta landscapes constitute his Night Series. These works began as a way to capture the quiet time that occurs when the roads become still, thoughts are heard and reflection occurs.

Scott Hill is inspired by painters of the late 1800's and his own childhood memories of Georgia. Hill's atmospheric works evoke a brooding mood as a result of a limited palette and the incorporation of several carefully painted layers of glazes.
